Do you ever say or write a word over and over again until it loses its original identity and meaning? Sometimes I lose myself in cropping, duplicating, rotating, flipping and repeating an image with an interesting shape, color profile or pattern. Just to see what might come of it. This form of play has the potential to create an image that is quite magical — and well beyond my imagination. Over the past few months I have added the dimension of geometric patterning to this exploration - mirroring triangular wedges into circular pentagrams and hexagrams. Like playing with a kaleidoscope, the result is a mandala-like composition of nature.
